hello!

don't fret!  Chinese is not a very easy language to learn, if you had no foundation since young. even though i have been living in Singapore all my life and being bilingual is important; i admit my Chinese skills are not up to par. though i can say i am trying!! so you should keep on going too! there was once upon a time i used to get literally ZERO for my Chinese tests..

i deduce that you are having issues with your han yu pin yin; which are the four tones and pronounication spellings of the words. that is perfectly normal; it is just a phase. i used to have that problem too, made it such a bummber when trying to look up that word in the dictionary.

what i can recommend you to do is; try typing out Chinese words often. the words would naturally get into you. and try reciting the word, in the four different tones. if this helps, you will realise that it forms the alphabet 'M'. i did a sketch for you, hope it helps!

the pink line (though it doesn't look very pink here does it?) - 1st sound.

the brown line(not looking very brown either..) - 2nd sound.

the green line(s) - 3rd sound.

the blue line - 4th sound.

yea, gradually but surely; you would pick it up! if there is anything else that i might be able to help you in, please don't hesitate to ask yea?

all the best to you!!

加油!!

Ciao Luca,
non preoccuparti. Anche io il primo semestre ero una frana, poi con gli anni le cose vanno sempre meglio.

Don't worry, your pinyin skills will come slowly. I have been studying for a few years and I still get confused when it comes to pinyin. One thing I do is I have a phone with Chinese on it so I can type in the pinyin and then the character pops up. Sometimes I can't remember if it is lu, or lv, or liu. Tones are also important so I listen very carefully when people talk and copy their pronunciation. I can't read and say the tones very well so I have to copy people. I hope this helps. Keep up to it and find someone who you can practice with and I have found listening is as important, if not more than speaking.
